You’ll need 1095-A if any of these are true
  • You (or anyone on your return) enrolled in a Marketplace (Exchange) health plan for any month of the year — even part-year.

Real-life examples
  • You had Marketplace coverage for a few months between jobs.
  • Your child or dependent was listed on your Marketplace policy (even if someone else claims them this year).
  • There were household changes (marriage/divorce, moves, add/remove dependent) during the year.

FAQs

Quick answers

FAQs

Do I file 1095-A with my return?
  • No — you use it to complete Form 8962, then e-file your return with Form 8962 included.
I didn’t get a subsidy — do I still need 8962?
  • If no one in your household received APTC and you don’t want to claim the credit, you generally don’t file 8962. If you qualify for the credit and want to claim it, file 8962 using your 1095-A.
Do 1095-B or 1095-C affect my filing?
  • They’re informational only — keep them for your records. The filing piece is 1095-A + Form 8962.
